A little history...
Stoddard-Dayton was an American luxury automobile manufacturer founded in 1905 in Dayton, Ohio, by the Stoddard Manufacturing Company, a business that had originally built farm equipment and carriages before entering the rapidly growing automobile industry. Company president John W. Stoddard recognized the potential of the automobile and transformed the firm's expertise in precision manufacturing into one of America's premier high-end car brands. During its brief but impressive existence, Stoddard-Dayton employed hundreds of workers and produced thousands of automobiles that competed directly with prestigious marques such as Packard, Pierce-Arrow, and Peerless. The company's advertising proudly proclaimed, ""The Real Difference Is in the Price,"" emphasizing that buyers could enjoy luxury-car engineering without paying the highest luxury-car prices.
Despite earning an outstanding reputation for quality, powerful engines, and exceptional craftsmanship—including success in endurance races and hill climbs—Stoddard-Dayton struggled to compete in a rapidly consolidating automobile industry. Following financial difficulties after the Panic of 1907 and increasing competition from mass-production manufacturers such as Ford, automobile production ceased in 1913, and the company soon exited the automotive business. Today, surviving Stoddard-Dayton automobiles are exceptionally rare and highly prized by collectors, admired for their elegant brass-era styling, meticulous engineering, and role in helping establish Dayton as one of America's early centers of automobile manufacturing.
